With Bruce Gradkowski injured with two damaged MCL knee ligaments, Al Davis was looking for an experienced veteran who could help them during the final three weeks of the season. Losman was a natural choice because of his strong arm and how he started to reshape his career in the UFL.
Former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel worked with Losman this fall during what turned out to be a UFL championship season for the Las Vegas Locomotives. Fassel constantly worked with Losman in practices and during games trying to improve on his techniques and throwing style. A strong-armed quarterback, Losman took to the coaching and played some of the best football of his young career.
Losman flew to Oakland on Tuesday after being contacted by the Raiders on Monday and was offered a contract Tuesday afternoon after taking a physical. Tom Cable now has Losman, JaMarcus Russell and Charlie Frye healthy and available for action during the final three weeks.
