Terrell Owens of Buffalo Bills misses practice with hip strain, status for Sunday unclear

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Terrell Owens missed Wednesday's practice because of a hip strain, and his status is unclear for Buffalo's game at Tennessee on Sunday.

Owens declined to comment, but was seen walking in the locker room without a limp.

Bills coach Dick Jauron said the injury first emerged Tuesday. Owens had practiced Monday without incident, but the next day, the hip began bothering him, and he received treatment immediately. On Wednesday, the hip did not appear to be any better.

"So right now it's pretty uncomfortable. We're kind of hoping it goes away as quickly as it came," Jauron said. "That's our hope. We really won't know any more until we see how he feels tomorrow."

The Bills announced quarterback Trent Edwards will start against Tennessee this weekend after missing two games with a concussion.

Jauron said Edwards has "earned the right" to start after the offense continued to struggle under backup Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The Bills (3-5) opened the season 1-4 under Edwards, before he suffered his second concussion in a little more than a year in a 16-13 overtime win Oct. 18 against the New York Jets.

Buffalo's offense continues to sputter, and ranks among the worst in the NFL.

The Bills have to decide Wednesday whether to activate receiver James Hardy or place him on season-ending injured reserve. He is currently on the reserve/physically-unable-to-perform list.
