Gore
Gore, who wasn't around to speak with reporters in the 49ers' locker room Monday, injured his left ankle while straining to get a first down on the second play of the second half against the Jets. He went to the locker room for X-rays, but returned to cheer on his teammates.
"We just have to watch him closely this week and see how healthy he is," coach Mike Singletary said. "I'm sure there will be some extra incentive. He's going home, so hopefully that will be medicine that is applied as well."
Gore's 52 yards rushing against New York left him with 978 this season. He's 10th-best in the league, and 22 yards shy of becoming the first player in 49ers history with three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He's also caught a touchdown pass.
Gore grew up in Coral Gables, Fla., and played his college ball at Miami, undergoing major surgery on both knees before leaving early for the NFL draft. He lives in his hometown near his son, prolific peewee football player Frank Jr., in the offseason.
