Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets now jogging on turf

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, three months removed from surgery on his left knee, said Wednesday that he has begun jogging and hopes to participate in the team's minicamp June 14-16.

Sanchez ran last week on a treadmill for the first time since his surgery, but he indicated his rehab has progressed to the point where he's running on turf.

"Just jogging for now," he said, adding that he has yet to start cutting.

Sanchez revealed that his secret goal since Feb. 17, when the surgery was performed, was to be back for the minicamp.

"I didn't want to say anything in February because who knows what could've happened?" he said, speaking at the New Meadowlands Stadium, where he appeared at a news conference in which the Jets and Giants provided details of their bid for the 2014 Super Bowl. "But that was absolutely my goal and I've been working hard every day to do that."

Sanchez also said he has done some soft-tossing, but nothing too strenuous at this point.
