Chicago's Bears' Lance Briggs replaces Houston Texans' Brian Cushing on All-Pro team

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bears' Lance Briggs has been voted second-team All-Pro at outside linebacker, an honor that initially belonged to Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who lost his place on the squad because of a recent suspension for testing positive for a performing-enhancing drug last September. After a revote, Briggs and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison finished in a tie for fourth, meaning both players join Pittsburgh's LaMarr Woodley on the second team.

This marks Briggs' third appearance on the All-Pro roster, after being awarded first-team honors in 2005 and second-team honors in 2006.

Last season Briggs was voted to his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl, leading the Bears with 147 tackles, while registering seven tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and one interception. The former third-round selection is only the third Bears player since 1971 to record 1,000 career tackles, reaching the 100-tackle plateau in each of the previous six seasons.

Cushing said Thursday he never used any banned substances even though he tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league's banned substance list. Cushing was suspended for four games without pay last week for violating the NFL's drug policy. His appeal was denied.
