Edelman's final play came in the fourth quarter when he caught a 4-yard pass from quarterback Brian Hoyer and was tackled by Tennessee cornerback Cary Williams. Edelman's right arm took the brunt of the fall on the play.

A seventh-round draft choice out of Kent State, Edelman is third on the team with 21 receptions for 188 yards. He was not spotted at the team's walk-through practice Tuesday and his chair was folded up at his locker when reporters arrived in the locker room.

With the team releasing Joey Galloway Tuesday, an injury to Edelman would leave the Patriots with Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Sam Aiken as healthy receivers. But New England has two open spots on the 53-man roster.

Coach Bill Belichick said Tuesday that the team is likely to fill those spots from within. Third-round draft choice Brandon Tate could be activated off the non-football injury list or Terrence Nunn could be promoted from the practice squad.
