"There is still pain," McNabb told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio in a brief interview as he arrived for treatment Monday at the team's practice facility in South Philadelphia.
"With these rib injuries, I don't know. It's Monday. We'll see how it goes."
Eagles head coach Andy Reid said Monday that backup quarterback Kevin Kolb will take all the first-team quarterback snaps in practice on Wednesday. Kolb, who had 391 yards passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the loss to the Saints, will start if McNabb cannot play.
McNabb was injured in the season opener at Carolina. He didn't practice last week and was ruled out 90 minutes before kickoff.
There is no reason to rush McNabb back this week. Under the terms of his reinstatement, Michael Vick can play for the Eagles this Sunday. Team sources said Reid is putting together an extensive package of plays for Vick, including shotgun and Wildcat formations. Against the Saints on Sunday, the Eagles lined up in the Wildcat nine times, gaining 45 yards.
If Reid plans to use Vick as a quarterback on Sunday, he will have to list him as the backup to Kolb, meaning that Jeff Garcia would have to be the third quarterback. Under league game-day rules, if Vick were listed as the third quarterback, and Reid inserted him in the first three quarters of the game, Kolb and Garcia would no longer be eligible to re-enter the game.
Reid, who would not say what he has planned for Vick, suggested that Vick was not ready for full-time quarterback duties in a regular-season game.
"Is he 100 percent back? I don't think so," Reid said. "I don't plan on putting him in that position."
In the event Vick does play, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell does not plan to attend Sunday's game, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Paolantonio.
