The Heisman Trophy winner in 2006, Smith is a two-year veteran selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2007 draft. Bouman is a much-traveled 10-year veteran with his sixth NFL franchise who signed with the Ravens earlier this spring as a free agent.
"We want to thank John for his work ethic and his professionalism," Miami general manager Jeff Ireland said at the time of Beck's release. "We wish him well in the future."
A second-round choice in 2007, and the fourth quarterback chosen overall that year, Beck was thought to have a bright future with the Dolphins. But that was before they selected Chad Henne in the 2008 draft. The choice of White in the second round on Saturday all but sealed Beck's fate with the club.

With his release, Beck was subject to a waiver claim, since he is a non-vested veteran. But any club claiming Beck would have assumed the final two years of the four-year, $4.5 million contract he signed with Miami as a free agent, so he went unclaimed. About a half-dozen teams demonstrated interest in Beck, and he chose the Ravens over the Jacksonville Jaguars.Baltimore offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who was Miami's head coach when Beck was drafted, lobbied for the team to sign him. Beck is familiar with Cameron's play book, and that should be a plus in his competition for the backup job.
Beck appeared in five games with four starts as a rookie, completing 60 of 107 passes for 559 yards, with one touchdown pass, three interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 62.0. Beck did not appear in a game in 2008. He is 1-3 as a starter.
