The Cleveland Browns and general manager Phil Savage agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep Savage with the team through 2012, the team announced Friday. Savage helped spearhead the Browns to a 10-6 record last season, the highest win total since the team returned to the NFL in 1999. In three years he drafted Pro Bowlers such as left tackle Joe Thomas and wide receiver Braylon Edwards. "I am extremely grateful to [owner] Randy Lerner and the Browns' organization for giving me an opportunity as a first-time GM back in January 2005 and now to continue with this extension through the 2012 season," said Savage in a statement. "We have worked very hard to turn the Browns around, on and off the field, and our team is looking forward to the 2008 season."
Savage joins head coach Romeo Crennel and offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski among Browns to get contract extensions this offseason. The Browns have five prime-time games and are expected to contend for a playoff spot this season.
