After the first 0-16 season in NFL history, the Detroit Lions parted ways with coach Rod Marinelli.

Chicago newspapers reported today that Marinelli met with Bears officials at their headquarters in suburban Lake Forest. It was not clear exactly what his role would be.

Marinelli and coach Lovie Smith were defensive assistants in Tampa Bay and have remained close friends. General manager Jerry Angelo also tried to hire him as defensive coordinator when Smith became the Bears' head coach in 2004.
